The setting of the forum is modern day Portland, Oregon, where it's almost always raining and everyone's just trying to survive. The city is big, it holds the largest amount of homeless and runaway teenagers, and it's pretty well known for it's vast population of coffeeshop-goers, artists, and trendy people all trying to find themselves.
Downtown Portland is crowded with chic salons, shops, and food places, along with too many condo/apartment buildings and even more garbage. You can't walk anywhere without being asked for some spare change by a sickly looking person, and you're never safe. While there aren't as many gangs as, say, New York, there are still many dangers in the Portland area.
The City of Roses isn't as beautiful as people make it out to be.
But, enough about the city, let's move onto the Bohemian scene. The Hawthorne District is the place the younger inhabitants of Portland claim is the 'Bohemian District.' Thrift stores, low key theatres and art galleries fill the streets, cafes and coffee shops are on every corner. A popular, cheap apartment building is right in the middle, and it's where all of our starving artists dwell. No one ever drives around this area, unless they're coming from the larger metro area, and most everyone bikes or walks. The style of the district is distinct and quite creative, you can look at a person and tell if they live in the area or not, just by what they're wearing.
This role play is about the starving artists and the people who want to be so much like them. This role play is about the actors and the musicians who would do anything to make it big, and it's about the people who aren't like them at all, but help them along the way nonetheless.
This isn't a fairytale, this is real life.
Some people will go homeless, others will get hurt. Relationships will form and relationships will crumble. Jobs will be lost, people will make it big.
Life is a struggle, and this is just a mess.
